The Ford Ranger Super Duty is already a serious bit of gear straight off the showroom floor, so when this one landed with us the brief was to build on it rather than fight it. A Super Duty tray and canopy package that works through the week and still packs everything needed for a weekend away.
The result is a 1600mm Trojan aluminium tray with a 1400mm lift-off canopy, finished in black powder coat against the white paint. It’s a clean, factory-style side profile that keeps weight down, leaves plenty of usable space, and can be stripped back to an open tray whenever the job calls for it.
Both sides open up wide on gullwing doors, and the flush floor means the fridge, drawers and pantry all sit down on the deck instead of on a false floor. No lost height, no wasted space.
A 1600mm tray on a Super Duty is the sweet spot. There’s enough deck to carry gear and long loads, without pushing the rear overhang out and hurting your towing clearance or departure angle. Pairing it with a 1400mm canopy, the touring side is genuinely thought through. The upright fridge means you’re not digging through a chest, the pantry and kitchen drawer put the cooking gear at waist height, and the headboard water tank tap sits right where you want it for a rinse-off at the end of the day. Camp setup is the awning, a couple of drawers and you’re done.
Day to day, it can still be a capable work ute. The trundle drawer swallows tools and recovery gear under the canopy floor, the underbody toolbox keeps the dirty stuff out of the living space, and everything locks.
A proper all-rounder. It’s built around how this Super Duty will actually be used, from the jobsite to the campsite, with nothing bolted on for show.
