D-Max

The D-Max has always been the quiet achiever of the ute world, and this one’s been set up to match. A chassis-mounted 1400mm alloy service body with a full touring fit-out inside. Compact from the outside, surprisingly complete once the doors go up.

Going chassis-mount rather than tray-and-canopy keeps the weight down and the storage up. There’s no doubling up of tray floor and canopy floor, so every millimetre goes into usable space, and the body sits tight to the cab for a clean side profile.

Why this build works

This is the build for someone who doesn’t want a big rig. 1400mm keeps the overall length sensible and the D-Max driving like a D-Max, but the fit-out doesn’t miss anything… Fridge, kitchen, water, power and lighting all on board.

The Weekender 12V package with the Hardkorr inverter is the difference between camping and living out of it. Run 240V gear off the inverter, top the batteries up off the 180W REDARC solar panel, and check where you’re at from the display without opening a thing. The 55L water tank and pump means a real tap, not a jerry can balanced on the bumper.

Up back, the spare-wheel and jerry-can combo puts the heavy, awkward gear where it belongs: outside, secure and lockable. This leaves the body clear for the things you actually reach for. The tri-colour internal lighting covers everything from cooking to a quiet white-light setup that doesn’t bring every mozzie in the district.
